Local Law 196 requires that all construction workers employed at job sites with a site safety coordinator, construction superintendent, or site safety manager receive at least 40 hours of safety training. Construction workers must complete a 10-hour OSHA course before beginning work and obtain the 40 hours of training needed for an SST Card within six months. Employers must confirm training and maintain proper records. Failure to do so can result in fines up to $5,000 per worker levied against the employer, site owner, and permit holder.
